Excel

No two learners are alike, so the most effective learning environments support and address the individual needs of each child. For children with unique learning needs, this is even more critical.

What we do

Lincoln Families’ EXCEL (Excellence through Counseling, Education, and Learning) program stabilizes youth with emotional and behavioral challenges to better access curriculum in the school setting, and prepare to transition to an inclusive educational environment. Our staff team provides supports for students, families, and schools to develop behavioral and academic tools and create learning spaces for success through:

Counseling Enriched Classrooms: Working with districts to provide special education classrooms with integrated mental health services for youth with emotional and behavioral challenges.

Mobile Special Education Teams: Providing integrated specialized mental health services to individual students at their school sites, including behavior assessment, social skills development, and 1-1 coaching in the classroom.

OUR WHY

Nationwide, the dropout rate for students with learning disabilities is nearly three times the rate for all students. Only one other category of students —- those with emotional and behavioral challenges —- experience a higher dropout rate. The students we serve are grappling with both. The toxic stress associated with traumatic, and often cumulative, early adverse childhood experiences can disrupt the healthy brain development of impacted children and youth. This can lead to behavioral, emotional, and school problems during childhood and adolescence, and even more serious issues in adulthood.

OUTCOMES

96% improved school functioning, a 10% increase over last year.

2 out of 3 graduating seniors supported through Lincoln’s Special Day program have been accepted into college.
