We Strongly Oppose the End of DACA
On Tuesday, President Trump told 800,000 young people in the U.S. that they don’t belong here. At Lincoln, we are outraged and do not support the decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) which has given DREAMers--young children who were brought to the US--the basic human rights of an education and health care. Most DREAMers were brought to the US whose parents were escaping violence, seeking political refuge, or looking to climb out of poverty. Lincoln’s values include diversity, excellence, and compassion and we believe that we reach success when we as a nation live out those beliefs.
Many of those affected by Tuesday’s decision live in the immigrant communities in which we work to defend and lift up. And many of our staff are also impacted, either directly or indirectly by friends and relatives who are DREAMers. If you haven’t already, today is the day to defend the extraordinary children and youth who have benefited from DACA. This is the only home they know and like anyone else, they need access to health care and a quality education which is essential to the well-being of our collective community.
