Community Perspectives Newsletter Issue 3

New Year, New Beginnings, New Website!

This month marks 140 years that Lincoln Families has worked to disrupt cycles of poverty and trauma in Bay Area communities. As the oldest operating nonprofit founded in Oakland, we have grown to offer critical mental health, family resources, and literacy programming throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. We are proud to be a part of a legacy that has supported children and families since 1883.

Our work is not possible without the heart of our organization, our dedicated Lincoln Families staff. We are also so grateful for the partnerships we have with our generous donors and funders. Our work wouldn’t be possible without your essential support, allowing us to continue our work.

Our 140th anniversary also marks new beginnings! We are excited to announce the launch of our new website launching February 7, 2023, with a look that both matches our mission and captures our dynamic future. We think you’ll like our fresh design and all the latest navigation elements for accessing content. Check out our new site and let us know what you think by sending your comments here. We hope you enjoy it! Feel moved to give and help us empower even more children and families to build strong futures? Our new website makes donating easy too!

Partner Spotlight: Zellerbach Family Foundation

The Zellerbach Family Foundation began supporting Lincoln Families in 2000, and has provided invaluable project and program support over the last two decades. The Zellerbach Family Foundation has generously funded both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of our East Contra Costa Capacity Building Initiative, a community assessment designed to understand the strengths, opportunities, and challenges of the Pittsburg community. The Phase 1 community strengths and needs assessment broadly identified the types of programs and services community members would find beneficial. The recently funded Phase 2 program design phase is an opportunity to take the community needs assessment a step further—to carry out a more deeply community-engaged process. This phase involves refining the results of the strengths and needs assessment to come up with more detailed programmatic and implementation strategies. The Zellerbach Family Foundation has a history of working with their grantmaking partners to support projects that remove barriers and expand opportunities in the Bay Area, and we are grateful for their support and belief in our work.

Join our Pittsburg Community Needs & Strengths Assessment Discussion tomorrow, 1/23, at 5 pm on Zoom.

Lincoln Families has engaged in a community needs and strengths assessment in Pittsburg in an effort to inform our services in the region and help us understand how we can best support children, youth, and families. Join us as we share the findings and engage in an interactive discussion about the next steps with Pittsburg youth and families, including the many community partners and residents that have participated in focus group discussions and completed the assessment survey.
