Mental Health Month
#SpeakUp
Since 1949, Mental Health Month has been observed in May by reaching millions of people in the United States in hopes of understanding mental illness, increasing access to treatment, and ensuring those who are struggling to know they are not alone. This year, Lincoln's Mental Health Month theme is "#SpeakUp." Our goals are to build awareness about the importance of mental health issues today, create the space to dialogue openly about the effects of mental health on our children and families, and provide tips and tools for taking positive actions to protect mental health and promote whole health.
What Can We Do About It?
Renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead once said, “Never underestimate the power of a few committed people to change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” This sentiment is both a calling and a goal for us—we believe that building a committed and robust stakeholder community will improve outcomes for young people with mental illness.
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. While one month is not enough time to truly advocate and speak up for young people living with mental illness, it’s a great opportunity to come together and provide the spaces to discuss the state of mental healthcare for young people and what more we can do to improve outcomes for young people and their families. It's time to #SpeakUp and spread awareness of the importance of mental health!
