Tony Thurmond: Building Community Relationships
This month, Lincoln Child Center is pleased to feature Tony Thurmond who has worked for Lincoln for four years. In his role as Senior Director of Community and Government Relations, Tony works with elected and government leaders to expand Lincoln’s service contracts and to establish community and corporate partners who can support its programs.
Taking Service to the Students
After more than 25 years, Lincoln Child Center has transitioned away from providing nonpublic school and day treatment services through its Conyes Academy, while expanding its Excel program which provides services at public school sites.
Lincoln Moves Back to Its Roots
We have officially moved! Our headquarters is now located at 1266 14th Street in West Oakland. As we have shifted our services to better meet the needs of children and youth in their homes, schools and communities, we have seen great results, with more children remaining with families, and in their schools.
Lincoln Provides HOPE
Summer is in full swing and parents are looking to keep their children busy! Lincoln's Helping Open Pathways to Education (HOPE) Alameda program, which provides school-based early intervention and prevention mental health services to at-risk children, youth, and families in Alameda County, offers a 5-week therapeutic activities program each year to keep their students engaged during their summer break.

In 2012, we made the strategic decision to return to our West Oakland roots, and continue our mission to serve children, youth and families in their homes, schools, and communities. Our move not only reflects our strategic direction, but also our focus on community- and school-based services.
Violence is Traumatic for Teachers, Too
You may have caught the recent news about street violence near New Highland Academy. On January 10th, teachers and children were preparing to leave on their regular visit to the nearby 81st Avenue Public Library branch when gunfire broke out and about sixty shots were fired.
